Presentation
The Brazilian Energy Research Office (EPE) presents the Statistical Yearbook of Electricity 2026 in the format of an interactive online report for visualization and analysis of statistical data of the electric energy chain in Brazil. Data related to electricity consumption in the distribution network in the last ten years are disclosed, with emphasis on 2025 (base year), in addition to the traditional global panorama, already present in previous editions.
In this 2026 edition, the Online Report was developed using the Quarto tool, which has significantly improved the user experience by making navigation more fluid and page loading faster. Furthermore, the Yearbook incorporates new topics, expanding its analytical scope to include data on electric vehicles, curtailment indicators, and electricity supply continuity metrics — DEC (Equivalent Duration of Interruption per Consumer Unit) and FEC (Equivalent Frequency of Interruption per Consumer Unit).
Among the features of the interactive online report, the ease of navigation across the main chapters stands out, achieved through the left-hand sidebar, which provides access to all sections of the report. Within each chapter, navigation between tables is carried out through a right-hand sidebar, facilitating content exploration. Throughout the report, users will find tables with one, two, or even three filters, as well as tables with multi-level groupings, enabling greater interactivity and simplifying navigation by reducing the total number of tables. Interactive charts follow the selected filters, updating dynamically according to user choices and expanding analytical possibilities.
The charts also allow users to explore the data dynamically: when hovering over a series, the corresponding values are highlighted; additionally, users may click on legend items to hide or display specific series, facilitating comparative analysis. Furthermore, charts are presented using the complete available historical series.
Additionally, this online version of the Yearbook allows users to download data in spreadsheet format through a download button located below each table in the report. Data can be downloaded in two distinct formats: matrix format, which reproduces the visual layout of the table as displayed in the report and strictly reflects any filters selected by the user, and structured format, organized in a standardized manner by records and variables, suitable for statistical analysis and data science applications, in which the complete historical series is provided without any filters. The tables displayed in the report follow a standard of presenting data for the last ten years. Furthermore, the Highlights section presents an analysis of the main developments that occurred in 2025 within Brazil’s electricity sector.
This Yearbook results from the compilation of historical series up to 2025, collected and consolidated by EPE throughout 2026. The statistics presented here consolidate the information published on a preliminary basis in the regular editions of the Monthly Review of the Electric Energy Market for the base year and in the Quarterly Bulletin of Electricity Consumption, published on the EPE website. It should be noted that the data presented here do not include the portion consumed in self-producers of electricity.
This publication is the result of cooperative work with energy market agents, carried out within the scope of the Permanent Commission for Analysis and Monitoring of the Electric Energy Market (COPAM), under the coordination of EPE. We register here our gratitude to the companies and their representatives for their cooperation in this work.
In addition to this online report, the Yearbook is presented in different formats: Yearbook Dashboard, Consumption Monitoring Panel, Workbook, Open Data and Factsheet. Check it out on the official EPE website: Website EPE - Yearbook.
