Presentation
The goal of the Brazilian Distributed Generation Dashboard (PDGD as in its Portuguese acronym) is to give transparency to a set of data collected and generated by EPE in the scope of its studies related to Distributed Micro and Mini Generation (MMGD). Some data, such as installed capacity and electricity generation, are published, for instance, in the National Energy Balance (BEN). Forecasts, on the other hand, are part of the Ten-Year Energy Expansion Plan (PDE). Through the PDGD, these and other data are consolidated and made available to the public.
Installed Capacity
This tab presents the annual evolution of the installed capacity, the number of MMDG installations, and the share of the capacity by source, sector and category. The data was obtained through the ANEEL website em 18 de março de 2026.
Top States and Cities
This tab identifies the federative units and municipalities with the largest installed capacity or number of installations. It uses the same database as the previous tab.
Typical Power
This tab shows the typical capacity of the projects along the years. The panel is divided with data for micro generators (up to 75 kW) on the left and mini generators (greater than 75 kW) on the right. It uses the same database as the previous tab.
Investments
This tab provides data on investments made in MMDG in Brazil. The methodology used to estimate it is, in short, the multiplication of the annual installed capacity by cost per kW of MMDG projects. The cost per kW is get from Greener Studies. Costs for intermediate powers (not informed) were obtained through linear interpolation. Due to the scale of the projects, 100% of the investment is attributed to the year the project starts operating.
Electricity Generation
This tab presents an estimate of the generation from the MMDG projects. It is worthwhile to mention that the total generated is not measured by the utilities due to the metering configuration. Therefore, EPE uses a methodology to estimate generation. This link presents the basis of the methodology.
To estimate the share of self-consumed and injected generation into the grid, an estimate was made based on typical self-consumption factor. This was assumed according to the source and sector of the consumer. The assumed factors can be found in this link.
In this tab, it is presented an estimate of the share of the electricity consumption in the regulated market that is met by MMDG. Total consumption data (the denominator of the equation) is estimated through the sum of the measured consumption (SAMP ANEEL) and the self-consumed generation of MMGD.
Financial Return
This tab presents estimates of the payback period and IRR evolution for PV projects. It's worth noting that the estimates are for typical projects and does not reflect necessarily the characteristcs of each project. More details about the methodology in this link.
Forecasts
This tab presents the latest market forecasts published by EPE in the PDE.More details about the scenarios can be found in this link.
